Washington, DC - The 32st Annual Adams Morgan Day will be celebrated on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 12noon to 7pm. The location is 18th Street N.W. between Columbia Rd and Florida; "Arts on Belmont" opens at 10am; with adjacent venues at Marie Reed School and Kalorama Park. Organizer Adams Morgan Main Street Group builds on recent innovations and successful traditions of decades in presenting this keenly anticipated event from 12 PM to 7 PM.
Themed as "A Global Community of Cultures," this regional DC-area festival features old traditions and new additions, sponsored by PNC and Bolt Bus. Adams Morgan Day is known for its live music, cultural, and dance performances, Kids' area, and popular "Arts on Belmont." Varied international foods abound not only from vendors, but from Adams Morgan's sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Visitors stroll with vendors on one side and view the year-round indie businesses and shopping of Adams Morgan on the other. Begun in 1978, the Adams Morgan Day Festival, celebrates all cultures together.
Two signature stages, Florida and Columbia offer diverse live music groups. Florida features international music such as Irish, Latin, Caribbean, reggae, and salsa, with a 3pm salsa contest. The Columbia features music developed from American roots; with soul, rock, Afro-Pop, blues from the Big Woo, and a rousing conclusion from Elikeh Band.
New in 2010 in the Health Pavilion, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente, which showcases health, sports, fitness, diet, and spas at 18th St and California. At the Green Pavilion, visitors will find under one large tent products, samples, services covering everything eco-friendly including remodeling, recycled, art, office & home products, and solar panels. The Pet Zone showcases products, agility, services and pet adoption and care, but consulting with Maryland's Dog Whisper can benefit owner and canine. Arts on Belmont sponsored by Harris Teeter on shady residential Belmont offers a range of work for budgets small and large. Savvy shoppers browse early through works in variety of media: oil, watercolor, metal, textiles, clay, and wood. It's fun and educational to meet the artists personally. Jazz in the Park offers quality jazz in quiet family atmosphere with such performers as John Lee, Lovesome Thing, and Jolley Brothers.
The interactive Dance Plaza, sponsored by Safeway, features Cuban salsa, line dancing, female Brazilian-Afro-samba, folkloric and Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers, with audience participation. Bank of America's Cultural Stage hosts smaller scale diverse Spanish Hip-Hop, musical theatre, and Japanese Mixed Art Form. Find free activities and games for all ages in the family-friendly Kid's Area with rock climbing wall, obstacle course, and prizes, even learn to create colorful sidewalk art.
